The Parade of Agility Veterans was created to pay tribute to the old dogs that have loved agility all these years. Those dogs that pioneered this sport in the late 1980's and early 1990's are passing on. We wanted a way to recognize these pioneers and their legacy. We are loosing our veteran dogs that we remember fondly competing with. Our sport is now of an age where we have dogs, veterans, in their teens! Who was it that thought Dog Agility would be just a fad? This parade is a way to bring those handlers and dogs together, to swap old stories, see old friends, and pay tribute to these dogs who started it all. I have shed too many tears over the last couple of years learning about yet another veteran dog passing on. Some day your dog will be a veteran, and you will miss your time with them on the road and in the ring. This parade gives us the chance to get out there one more time.... Remember when you first saw a particular dog run and how much fun they were having and how they still enjoy it even now. Maybe at a slower pace, but still with enthusiasm.... So put your hands together and applaud these pioneers and best friends. Let the owner know it sure was nice to see them out there again. Give that old dog a pat on the head and a hug, and don't be bashful to shed a tear or two.
